The nominations for the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards were announced on afternoon (Nov. 24), with expected favorites like Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Dua Lipa, Post Malone snagging nominations in the Big Four categories.
One massive surprise on the nominations list was The Weeknd, who didn’t receive any nods in the Big Four or genre categories despite the commercial and industry acclaim of his recent album, After Hours and its singles “Blinding Lights” and “Heartless,” among others. The Canadian star also won big at both the VMAs and the AMAs this year.
The star took to social media a few hours after the list was revealed to slam the Recording Academy for the snub. “The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency…” he tweeted.
While the Recording Academy has yet to reveal their reasoning behind The Weeknd’s lack of Grammy recognition, the discussion will surely continue in the next few months leading up to the 2021 ceremony.
The week after the 2021 Grammy Awards, the star will headline the 2021 Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show on Feb. 7 in Tampa Bay, Florida.
