As Joe Biden addressed the nation in his first speech as president-elect, Rihanna and other artists cheered on the 46th president of the United States and his running mate, Kamala Harris.
Biden said he would “make America respected around the world again,” and that although he understood Trump supporters were disappointed in the election results, “this is the time to heal.”
“With the world watching, you ushered in a new day for America,” vice president-elect Harris said during her time on stage. “For four years, you marched and organized for equality and justice, for our lives, for our planet, And then you voted. Now is when the real work begins. We have elected a leader who represents the best in us.”
“The faces of history makers, boundary breakers, and WINNERS!!” Rihanna wrote on social media as Harris and Biden’s speeches wrapped on Saturday night (Nov. 7). “CONGRATULATIONS to you both, and mostly to the American people!! So much work to do, so much hurt to undo! Let’s GO! I’m so proud of you America!”
During his speech, Biden expressed gratitude for the Black community. “Especially for those moments when this campaign was at its lowest — the African American community stood up again for me,” he said. “They always have my back, and I’ll have yours.”
Janelle Monae showed her approval for this part of his speech with a speechless tweet consisting of “!!!!!!!!!” and emojis of praise.
Camila Cabello also took to Twitter to share her exhilarated reaction to the night’s event: “I can’t stop crying . Thank you thank you thank you @JoeBiden @KamalaHarris.”

The victory speeches also made Nick Jonas emotional. “Wow,” he wrote. “My heart is full. #BidenHarris2020.”
