Nick Carter happily announced on Wednesday (Jan. 13) that he and his wife, Lauren Kitt, are expecting their third child after she suffered multiple miscarriages.
“Sometimes life blesses you with little surprises,” Carter wrote underneath the Instagram video of the sonogram while tagging Kitt. The former Backstreet Boys member and his wife exclusively told People about just how surprised they were by the news after they previously settled on having two children, their 4-year-old son Odin Reign and their 1-year-old daughter Saoirse Reign. The actress didn’t know she was pregnant until she was five-and-a-half months along, and even thought she might have a tumor because being pregnant was the last thing she expected.
“I didn’t have any symptoms; I didn’t have anything indicating that I was pregnant,” she said. “One day I just — I felt something move in my body and I said, ‘Nick, there’s something not right. I think I need to go to the doctor. Something’s wrong with me.’ I was not supposed to be able to have any more children, so I never assumed that I was pregnant.”
Kitt continued, “I thought I had a tumor because there was just no way that I could be pregnant, from just my medical history and the things that I did to ensure that I just had my two children.”
Kitt revealed in 2015 during a pre-taped video package for Dancing With the Stars (when Carter was competing) that she had suffered a miscarriage. Carter shared o Twitter in 2018 that his wife, whom he married in 2014, went through another miscarriage and they had lost a baby girl. The fitness expert told People that her last one, before their daughter Saoirse was born in 2019, was a second-term loss.
“When she came out with her story, we were so happy because we were like, ‘Wow, other people are open and sharing their stories and it’s not so taboo,'” Kitt said. “People go through it and I was actually very grateful that they shared as much as they did and as in-depth as they did, because I mean, no one talks about it.”
Although the sex of the baby has yet to be publicly revealed, the child is due this April.
“With everything that 2020 has given to the entire world, I look at it as a blessing,” Carter added. “We love our two children and we pride ourselves on being great parents.”
