Lana Del Rey took a break from the recording studio to share a cover of the hymn “On Eagle’s Wings” after being inspired by President-elect Joe Biden’s acceptance speech on Saturday (Nov. 7).
In his emotional address, Biden shared some inspiring words from the 1970s hymn, which was a favorite of his late son Beau Biden, who died from cancer in 2015. Obviously inspired, Del Rey took to Instagram to share her a capella take on the Michael Joncas-penned hymn.
“And He will raise you up on eagle’s wings/ Bear you on the breath of dawn/ Make you shine like the sun/ And hold you in the palm of His hand,” Del Rey beautifully sings in the black-and-white clip.
“Hey guys well as promised we are getting a Headstart on that album of standard folk songs and all things americana, but we took a break to watch the Biden speech and he mentioned at the end of it to hymn that he hoped gave Americans hope so I thought I would just give a little version of that as we took a break in the studio,” she captioned the post.
Earlier in the week, the 35-year-old singer announced that her upcoming album, Chemtrails Over the Country Club, is being delayed by 16 weeks. To hold fans over in the meantime, she plans to release a new album filled with “American standards and classics” by Christmastime.
