Metallica & Miley Cyrus Deliver Heavy-Hitting ‘Nothing Else Matters’ Performance on ‘Howard Stern Show’: Watch

Metallica and Miley Cyrus joined forces during The Howard Stern Show on Thursday (Sept. 9) for a heavy-hitting performance of the iconic rock band’s classic song “Nothing Else Matters.”

Cyrus’ recorded rendition of “Nothing Else Matters” appears on the new star-studded covers album, The Metallica Blacklist, which dropped Friday. The singer first covered the rock-radio staple, from Metallica’s Billboard 200-topping Black Album in 1991, during her set at Glastonbury Festival 2019.

“When I first started covering this song, it was for Glastonbury, because it is about honoring music, and ‘nothing else matters’ at that moment…,” Cyrus told Stern prior to the performance. “It was about two weeks before the world knew I was getting a divorce… I had just lost my house in the [California] fires.”

She added, “I was so heartbroken and my purpose was coming from this performance. I got sober at that time. I really pulled my f—ing s— together. This song was what drove me to that place, because I knew nothing else mattered. My life in regards to love was falling apart, but I had my love for music.”

For her recorded cover of “Nothing Else Matters,” Cyrus teamed up with Elton John, Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, Yo-Yo Ma, WATT and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. The four-disc Metallica Blacklist project also features reimaginings by Weezer, Juanes, St. Vincent, Cage the Elephant, J Balvin, Phoebe Bridgers, Chris Stapleton and others.

During the Stern interview, Elton John, who plays the piano intro on Cyrus’ version of “Nothing Else Matters,” joined on video from home to share his thoughts on the celebrated tune, describing it as “one of the best songs ever written.”

John added, “You can’t really define them. They’re not a heavy metal band; they’re a musical band. Their songs aren’t just heavy metal, they’re beautiful songs. This is just such a melodic song. It’s f—ing great, actually.”

Disney’s Live-Action ‘The Little Mermaid’ to Open on Memorial Day Weekend in 2023

Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid has scored a Memorial Day Weekend 2023 opening.

The movie was part of a slew of dates the studio staked out as it looks to plant flags for its movies into 2024, even while it keeps most of those titles secret. It made the announcement Friday (Sept. 10).

Separately, Disney confirmed that the remainder of its 2021 movie slate will get the theatrical treatment, with its live-action movies, Eternals and West Side Story among them, slated for a 45-day window while animated movie Encanto gets a 30-day window.

Meanwhile, Guillermo del Toro’s dark thriller Nightmare Alley was originally set to have a limited release on Dec. 3, but will now have a wide release Dec. 17.

Bob’s Burgers, the feature based on the hit animated series, snagged a May 27, 2022, release while filmmaker David O. Russell’s untitled movie will open Nov. 4, 2022, which looks to be a prime awards season slot. Three other Searchlight films nabbed 2022 slots, but the titles have not been revealed.

The live-action Mermaid, directed by Rob Marshall, has been given a May 26, 2023, release. The movie boasts an all-star cast that includes Javier Bardem, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, Melissa McCarthy and Halle Bailey as Ariel.

Disney also dated four mystery Marvel movies for 2024, planting their superhero flags on Feb. 16, May 3, July 26 and Nov. 8, 2024. Pixar will have two releases on the calendar, titles also unrevealed, with March 1 and June 14 stenciled in, respectively.

The live-action movie division wasn’t left out, getting berths of March 22 and July 5, 2024.

Dorothy Carvello’s ‘Anything For A Hit’ Exposé Being Adapted Into Docuseries: ‘We’re Going to Tell the Truth’

Former A&R executive Dorothy Carvello’s exposé of sexual and financial misconduct in the record industry, Anything For A Hit: An A&R Woman’s Story of Surviving The Music Industry, is being adapted into a three-part docuseries.

Carvello, who detailed the exploits of Atlantic Records founder/chairman Ahmet Ertegun as well as other executives there and at other labels, is working with filmmakers Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg of Break Thru Films, production company One Foot Forward Entertainment and producer Matt Stroud to bring her memoir to the screen in 2022.

“I’m excited that we’re going to tell the truth about a business where there is no accountability for the systemic abuse of woman,” says Carvello, who, in her memoir, described her time at Atlantic as “a circus mixed with an orgy.” “We have no #MeToo in the music business, while it has touched Hollywood, TV, sports, politics and the corporate world.”

Stern and Sundberg are the filmmakers of such acclaimed documentaries as Reversing Roe, Joan Rivers: A Piece of WorkSurviving Jeffrey Epstein and Marathon: The Patriots Day Bombing. Their company, Break Thru, will also run production on the docuseries along with One Foot Forward, which produces content aimed at major streaming services, and Stroud, who has worked on the HBO Max series, Genera+ion.

One Foot Forward is a division of Michael Yudin’s MY Entertainment, which has produced content for Discovery, National Geographic, MTV and the Travel Channel. The producers have not revealed whether Anything For A Hit has been acquired by a streaming service, but Carvello says the project should be ready to run sometime next year.

In a statement, Stern and Sundberg said, “We are thrilled to partner with Michael Yudin and his team at One Foot Forward to bring Dorothy Carvello’s remarkable memoir to the screen. Carvello’s singular perspective on the music industry — as a woman and as a key insider at a major label — offers a powerful lens that indicts and inspires in equal measure.”

A synopsis of the project describes the docuseries as a three-parter “that goes deep into the dreams and dysfunctions of the music industry as experienced by Carvello, the first woman A&R executive at a major label. Carvello’s wickedly funny voice brings unexpected humor to her quest to survive and thrive in a world of toxic behavior and male privilege — from the heyday of the 1980s to now — as she fearlessly works to bring change to an industry where few have been brave enough to step forward and share their story. The series will feature key interviews with major label executives and artists whose stories illustrate the power and sexual dynamics that are tied to success in the music world.”

“This is a global problem for the music industry,” says Carvello, who has become a crusader for women who were sexually harassed, abused and raped by executives and music artists. “Since I wrote the book, women in Australia, England and Mexico, as well as the United States, have come to me with serious allegations of rape, sexual assault and sexual harassment. If women complain, like me, they are fired and their careers are destroyed — they’re not allowed back into the club — and the male executives who commit these acts keep getting recycled from company to company.”

There are men running public companies who have paid to silence claims. If I was a shareholder, I wouldn’t want my money being used to cover up sexual abuse, which is a crime,” she adds.

“The change has to come from outside and I’m going to make it happen,” says Carvello.

Brett Eldredge Gets Surprise Visit From a Bear at His Home Garage: ‘Had a New Friend Waiting to Say Hello’

Brett Eldredge has had another encounter with wildlife, this one involving a bear at a North Carolina home.

The country music singer posted a video this week of the run-in after the bear entered a garage at a home in Asheville, North Carolina, as he was about to go on a hike, The Charlotte Observer reported.

“Opened the garage door to go on a hike and had a new friend waiting to say hello,” Eldredge wrote on Instagram.

The video shows the bear pulling the bin away from a garage wall, turning it over and trying to pry it open. Meanwhile, Eldredge and others were yelling to scare it off. The bear eventually gave up, backing out of the garage without getting a meal.

In 2017, Eldredge posted video of a snake raising itself out of a toilet while he was staying at a resort in the Bahamas to celebrate the new year.

Eldredge did not say why he was in Asheville, but the singer is currently preparing for a tour which starts next week.

Bear encounters are becoming more common in western North Carolina, news outlets report. A sleeping teenager was seriously hurt in a bear attack this summer in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
