FKA Twigs Has Completed a Brand New Album During Quarantine

FKA Twigs has made good use of her time amid the coronavirus lockdown.

During an interview for the Grammy Museum’s Programs at Home series, the 32-year-old British artist revealed to moderator Scott Goldman that she has completed a brand new album while being stuck indoors during the pandemic.

“It was one-third of the way through and I just said, ‘You know what, I’m just going to make an album,’ and I just went and did it,” Twigs said during the virtual interview. “I’m just sort of finishing it now.”

The singer-songwriter’s last album, Magdalene, arrived last November. The nine-track set, her second release, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart.

Twigs said she primarily worked Spanish producer El Guincho to write the new as-yet untitled album over FaceTime. Other collaborators included songwriters Billy Walsh and Ali Tamposi.

“I was working with people I’d never met in real life and we were doing the whole thing over FaceTime and it was great because I couldn’t go in the studio at the beginning,” she explained, noting that the time difference between the U.K. and U.S. allowed her to work day and night.

Twigs said she prefers collaborating on new music in person, but that she has “embraced” this new way of writing.

“I managed to find a sense of community over the Internet, which is unusual for me. I’m not a very Internet-y person,” she said.

Twigs added that being in quarantine has allowed her to explore new interests, such as learning how to read music and practicing the piano.

Selena Gomez ‘Went Into a Bit of a Depression’ At Beginning of the Pandemic

Selena Gomez is continuing to open up about mental health issues. In a new chat with Dr. Vivek Murthy posted to her Rare Beauty’s Instagram Oct. 10, the singer shares how she struggled with depression at the start of the global coronavirus pandemic.

“In the beginning, I couldn’t deal with it that well. I kind of went into a bit of a depression,” the extroverted singer shared with Murthy, who was the surgeon general under President Barack Obama. “And then I started going into a place where I was really writing and being active. I guess it just forced me to have that time.”

“My job is a lot of travel, connecting with people, making people happy, and that makes me happy, so it has been a struggle,” continued the 28-year-old, who noted that the pandemic has allowed her to spend more time with people who are important to her, including her family. But she has found things that make her feel better during this global health crisis.

“Slowly, towards the end, I found thing things I’m doing are coming out, and that was extremely exciting for me. I’ve worked on personal things like a beauty line that has a goal of reaching $100 million in 10 years for mental health,” Gomez shared. “And recently, I’ve been able to go to the studio. So I would say right now, I’m fully coming out again and I just think I had to handle it the way I needed to handle it, and got through it with the right people and doing the right things and doing the right steps to not make me go crazy.”

In May, the singer — who was quarantining with her grandparents and friends in Los Angeles — said that in these challenging times, she thought it was important to be aware of what’s happening, yet give yourself breaks. “I think it’s important to stay informed and be aware of the latest news, but also take breaks from it because it can be overwhelming,” she advised.

Earlier in the year, the “Lose You to Love Me” singer, who has previously been open about her struggles with depression and anxiety, discussed her bipolar diagnosis in a chat with Miley Cyrus for the latter’s Bright Minded Instagram Live series. “I went to one of the best mental hospitals in … America, McClean Hospital, and I discussed that after years of going through a lot of different things, I realized that I was bipolar,” Gomez told Cyrus at the time. “And so when I got to know more information, it actually helps me. It doesn’t scare me once I know it.”

Gomez was honored with the 2019 McClean Award for her work in mental health advocacy. Watch her chat with Dr. Murthy below.

There, Cardi showed off some sexy moves, including twerking for Offset, who put his hand on his apparently not-so-estranged wife’s behind. In one video shared to Instagram stories, Cardi jumps on the Migos rapper, who is lying down, to give him a horizontal lap dance of sorts.

Cardi B Gives Offset a Kiss & Steamy Dance At Her Birthday Party

Cardi B rang in her 28th birthday with a big bash — and her maybe not so estranged husband, Offset.

During her Las Vegas shindig late in the evening of Oct. 10, the “Please Me” rapper partied at a club with friends, including her “WAP” collaborator Megan Thee Stallion. Also at the party was Offset, Cardi’s husband from whom she filed for divorce on Sept. 15 after three years of marriage, later explaining that they had grown apart.

In Instagram Stories videos shared by friends in attendance, Cardi — whose birthday is Oct. 11 — celebrated in a stunning curve-hugging dress that featured a metallic top and clean white bottom. While at the club, she danced, drank and enjoyed a colorful, multiple-tiered cake. At one point, Cardi was spotted kissing Offset, per a photo obtained by E! News.

But the party didn’t end at the club. Per the Stories videos, she and her friends continued dancing into the morning at what appeared to be a hotel, where Offset was once again present. In his own Instagram Stories videos, he shared clips of the birthday girl — now in a comfy gray outfit — twerking in front of him. In one clip, he puts his hand on her bottom as she grooves.

It only got spicier from there. The Migos rapper also shared in his  Stories a video taken by a friend showing Cardi B jumping on top of him as he was lying on the floor, giving him a horizontal lap dance.

Offset also shared a video of himself dancing on a balcony overlooking Vegas, which appeared to hint at how he feels about the mother of his daughter, Kulture. He wrote in the caption, “When ya girl from Newyork and ima Atlanta N—a.” Cardi B is from Manhattan.

Ahead of Cardi’s birthday, she got a very public shoutout via her 2-year-old daughter with Offset, Kulture. She shared on Instagram a video on Oct. 9 of herself admiring a big pink Billboard that read “Happy birthday mommy love, Kulture.” In the clip, Cardi can be heard gushing, “Oh my goodness! Oh my God!” She captioned the video, “Thank you sir. I love it.” Fans speculated in the comments that the unnamed “sir” was none other than Offset.

According to the Fulton County Magistrate’s website, the divorce case is still open. Billboard has reached out to reps for Cardi B and Offset.

Fiona Apple Performs ‘Fetch the Bolt Cutters’ Songs at 2020 New Yorker Festival: Watch

Fiona Apple gave a rare live performance and interview as part of The New Yorker’s virtual festival on Saturday (Oct. 10).

During her intimate socially distanced performance, where she was backed by several other musicians, the 43-year-old singer-songwriter sat at a piano and powerfully delivered the first three songs from her latest album, Fetch the Bolt Cutters.

Watch her perform “I Want You to Love Me,” “Shameika” and “Fetch the Bolt Cutters” in the video below.

Apple’s appearance at The New Yorker Festival was a treat for fans, who don’t often get to see the singer perform in a live setting. In recent years, she’s only given a handful of live performances, including an appearance at a 2019 tribute concert for Chris Cornell in Los Angeles and as a surprise guest during St. Vincent’s set at Texas’ Trans-Pecos Festival in 2017.

In addition to her musical performance, Apple also sat down for a virtual interview with New Yorker writer Emily Nussbaum, who penned an eye-opening profile about the reclusive artist ahead of Fetch the Bolt Cutters’ release in April.

Fetch the Bolt Cutters marks Apple’s first new musical release in eight years. The album’s lead single, “Shameika,” launched the singer back onto the Billboard airplay chart after a two-decade absence.

This year’s New Yorker Festival ran from Oct. 5-11 and featured a wide-ranging lineup, including Ethan Hawke, Margaret Atwood, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Chris Rock, Steve Martin, Jerry Seinfeld and Yo-Yo Ma, among others.
