Here’s What Harry Styles Really Thinks About Taylor Swift Writing Songs About Him

In an interview with Howard Stern on SiriusXM Monday morning (Mar. 2), Harry Styles discussed a variety of topics, including his songwriting practices.

When the host observes that Styles’ romantic songs are often followed by fans trying to figure out which famous love interest it’s about, the crooner agreed. “There’s not a lot of interviews where I talk a lot about personal stuff, but I’m fine doing it in music. And I feel like, doing it in music, that’s my version,” he explained.

Stern then brought up Styles’ former romance with Taylor Swift, whose songs “Out of the Woods” and “Style” are widely believed to be about the One Direction member. When asked if that upsets him, Styles said it doesn’t.

“I think about what it means to me to write a song about somebody else, and for someone else to do that, I think it’s flattering,” he replied. “Even if the song isn’t that flattering, you still spend time on it, and ultimately, using Taylor as an example, she’s a great songwriter.”

“The only time that you think, ‘Oh, is this song too personal?’ is if you think about, is this going to be really annoying for the other person,” he continued.

Earlier in the day, Cabello used her day of celebration to encourage her fans to do good. Alongside a birthday selfie, the songstress thanked everyone for their birthday wishes, and asked for support for Save the Children. “for my birthday I wanna bring attention to one of the worst humanitarian crises happening in the world right now, in Syria,” she wrote. “950,000 people have been forced to flee their homes because of the violence in Idlib – some with only the clothes on their backs. Most of them are children. Now, they’re living in displacement camps in freezing cold temperatures. families shouldn’t have to choose between dying from bombs or freezing cold temperatures.”

“Save the Children is working to provide displaced families with food, blankets and warmth,” she continued. “They are trying to keep kids families safe, but they need our help. so for my birthday, it would mean the world to me if you would consider supporting Save the Children’s response to this humanitarian crisis. Go to savethechildren.org to help Save the Children reach children in need. I love u.”

Miley Cyrus Calls Australia Her ‘Second Home’ Ahead of Headlining Wildfire Benefit Concert

Miley Cyrus is heading down under next week (March 13) to headline a bushfire relief concert in Melbourne, where she will be joined by performers Lil Nas X, The Veronicas and Seb Fontaine.

Ahead of her performance, Cyrus chatted with Australian news station Sunrise about the special connection she has with the country for the past decade, as she was previously married to Aussie actor Liam Hemsworth.

“Australia has been such a major part of my life for the last 10 to 12 years. It’s kind of been a home away from my home for me,” Cyrus explained. “The first time I went to Australia, I really fell in love with it. I was there on a tour, and we had a couple days off and I got to explore. More than, almost anywhere in the world, I think I’ve had more of a personal relationship with it because of the amount of time I’ve been able to spend there.”

Additionally, Cyrus can sympathize with the victims of the devastating wildfires; her home in Malibu was destroyed in 2018 due to fires.

“I lost my home in Malibu a couple of years ago, and we were really lucky that we were able to get our animals out safely, and there were a lot of them. Not everyone was as fortunate,” she said before adding that she also lost “all my journals, lost a lot of the music and demos.”

However, she concluded on a positive note, recalling that she “had seen one of my favorite artists, Mr. Brainwash, at an art gallery and I told him, ‘Man, I lost all my art.’ And he goes, ‘You will make more.’ And I thought, ‘You know what, that’s right, I’ll just make more.’ And that’s the same thing with memories, losing memories, losing things, you’ll make more.”

Record Labels Restrict Travel Amid Escalating Coronavirus Threat

As the coronavirus continues to spread, multinational record companies are putting the brakes on international travel.

In an internal memo to employees, Universal Music Group noted, “for the health and well-being of our staff, and in order to be a responsible member of the global community seeking to stop the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), we have put in place new policies and procedures, including: Suspended international business travel until further notice; postponed internal employee conferences requiring travel; and continued to comply with the guidance of local governments, the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control.”

Sony Music Group is prohibiting travel to Asia and Northern Italy — the areas where the largest amount of cases have been reported — according to a source. Otherwise, it is up to the employee’s discretion whether to take a trip.

Similarly, Warner Music Group has stopped work travel to heavily affected areas, including Asia, Italy and Iran, says a source. Warner Music Group’s publishing division, Warner Chappell, also postponed a conference slated for the end of March and WMG postponed marketing meetings scheduled for Madrid.

BMG has issued guidelines urging its employees to avoid international as well as intra-continental travel, noting that all new travel proposals will be approved only if they are critical for business. Meanwhile, the company has banned travel to mainland China outright, restricted travel to Germany and ordered employees in Hong Kong and Beijing to work remotely.

Kobalt has suspended all employee travel internationally, restricted non-essential domestic travel and instituted a requirement for employees to conduct all job interviews via video conference. Next week, the company will be conducting a two-day remote-working trial for all staff to prepare for a potential worsening of the crisis.

Concord has suspended all international trips until further notice and “all non-essential domestic travel is strongly discouraged,” according to a human resources memo sent to staffers. “When possible, you should conduct necessary business meetings across locations via teleconference or Skype for Business.”

Of the companies surveyed by Billboard, Concord is the only one that has so far officially canceled its participation at South by Southwest — an annual happy hour event at the LINE Hotel planned for March 18.

Companies are also adding options for employees to work from home. “Our IT team has developed procedures to meeting and working remotely so that our work supporting our artists, songwriters and partners continues uninterrupted,” UMG informed staffers.

WMG is asking that employees exhibiting symptoms stay home and get tested. Additionally, staffers vacationing in affected areas on their lists, including Asia, Italy and Iran, should work from home for two weeks upon their return.

Kacey Musgraves Helps Nashville Tornado Relief by Selling Stage Clothes

A tornado ripped through parts of Nashville early Tuesday morning (March 3), leaving at least 25 people dead in four counties and countless more with damaged property, according to the Tennessean.

In response to the tragedy, Kacey Musgraves is doing what she can to help by selling her stage clothes on celebrity-clothing seller Stage to Closet. She originally partnered with the company to raise money for Tennessee urban forest preservation, but the songstress announced on Tuesday that the proceeds from the sales will benefit tornado relief efforts.

“Heartbroken for East Nashville. I lived on this side of town (in this neighborhood until recently) for years. Many friends are severely affected. Thankful to be ok and thinking of those who aren’t,” Musgraves wrote on her Instagram story, noting that while forest preservation is still important, the “tornado relief efforts need help first.”

Earlier in the day, Musgraves confirmed to fans that she is safe following the storm. “Me and my fam are safe but many friends aren’t so lucky,” she wrote. “We did live right in one of the worst hit spots a matter of months ago. It’s so crazy. I’m so nervous to find out who the fatalities are. Nashville is so tight knit. I’m gonna help in any way I can.”

Mariah Carey Cancels U.S. Concert Due to Coronavirus

As the coronavirus continues to spread, and travel restrictions tighten, many artists have been canceling previously-scheduled concerts. Mariah Carey is the latest, postponing her March 10 show in Honolulu.

She uploaded a throwback photo performing in Hawaii to Instagram on Tuesday (Mar. 3), announcing the news. “Aloha Hawaii!! I’m so so sad to have to announce that I’m postponing my show to November,” she wrote. “I was so excited to come back to Hawaii on my ‘anniversary month’ but evolving international travel restrictions force us to consider everyone’s safety and well being.”

“With that said, I am SUPER excited to be coming to Honolulu in November and perform my special All I Want for Christmas Is You & Hits extravaganza for the first time ever in Hawaii! I can’t wait to see you! Stay safe!!” she concluded.

The show is now scheduled for Nov. 28. See ticket info here.
